Seminar A: LET'S FACE IT; IT'S THE WAY WE INTERACT
THAT COUNTS
Target audience: Cambridge ESOL OEs;
English teachers from universities and middle schools;
people who are interested in Speaking assessment
This presentation explores how Cambridge ESOL Speaking
tests encourage candidates to produce spontaneous
samples of speech, how the contributions are managed,
and how the criteria for assessment capture real-life
interaction.

Seminar B: ONE PICTURE IS WORTH 10 THOUSAND WORDS
Target audience: English teachers
from BETS/LMS training schools and test centers/middle
schools and universities; Cambridge ESOL presenters
A single picture can stimulate candidates to talk
about so many things. This talk looks at the basic
principles in selecting pictures for use in Cambridge
ESOL speaking tests; Tips on preparing candidates
for Cambridge ESOL Speaking test; a video clip of
some Chinese students taking BETS/MSE Speaking test.

| Angela holds an MEd in Language
Testing from the University of Bristol, and an MA from
the University of Cambridge. Having been involved in
teaching and testing English for 30 years, both in the
state and private sectors, Angela joined Cambridge ESOL
in 1991 as a Subject Officer, with responsibility for
Speaking papers. Since 2001 she has been responsible
for the management of the all the Upper Main Suite papers
(FCE, CAE and CPE: Reading, Writing, Use of English,
Listening and Speaking). In this capacity she has been
involved in all aspects of developing and administering
tests and assessment criteria, in the training of item
writers, in pretesting and analysing test material,
and in the grading of the exams. |
